Chapter 02

A man with his front pressed to the bed stretched his arm in search of a pillow as a ray of sunrays hit on his face through the curtains. He caught hold of an untangled blanket after not finding any pillow and covered his face with it, to protect himself from those evil rays. As he was about to dive deep into his sleep again, he heard few soft knocks on the door before it burst open. He doesn't budge at the sound and pretended to be asleep.

“Chachu is asleep.” A soft mischievous voice said and he was quick enough to recognise it to be that of Shivansh.

“Keep quite dummy.” Another soft mischievous voice said and that was of Shivanshi, Shivansh’s twin.

They both walked towards him with slow and cautious steps as they stopped at the edge of the bed. He turned around in sleep as he pressed his back on the bed making them to supress their giggle because they were contemplating to carry on with their plan or not as his back was facing them.

Shivanshi leaned towards his face and raised her hand clutching a sketch pen in it. The tip of the sketch pen was about to touch his face when he quickly held her hand and opened his eyes making her shriek in fear giving Shivansh a jump scare. Without wasting another second Shivansh ran out leaving his twin behind in the pit which they mutually agreed to dig in.

“Don’t leave me here, dummy.” Shivanshi yelled looking at the running figure of her twin as a look of betrayal adorned her face.

“You should have thought before coming up with this idea.” He said firmly as he sat up resting his back against the headboard of the bed still softly clutching her hand.

“Sorry, chachu!” She lowered her gaze trying her best to give him a guilt filled face.

“Not that face.” He warned her but string of tears gathered into her eyes as she looked up at him and scrunched her nose making him regret his words.

“I didn’t mean to scare you baby.” He picked her up and make her sit on his lap as he bobbed her nose.

“Can I draw?” She asked with her soft voice making him sigh and give her a small positive nod. He relaxed himself when he saw mischief return in her eyes as she started drawing on his cheek.

“Can I draw too?” A peeking Shivansh asked from the door frame making him chuckle and his twin to glare him.

“Come.” He extended his arm to gesture him to come in making Shivansh run towards him smilingly.

Shivansh started drawing on his other cheek while he could feel his twin glaring at him through his peripheral vision while their Chachu tried his best to control his smile not to disrupt their arts.

“Done!” Shivanshi exclaimed clapping her hands together and smiling at her art.

“Me too!” After a minute Shivansh joined her smiling at his art.

“Can I see the masterpieces, now?” He looked down at their faces who nodded at him excitedly.

He turned towards the mirror as he saw a big star with light blue ink on one of his cheek that Shivanshi had drawn and a small sun on his cheek bone which emitted lots of rays with yellow colour that faded at his jawline which Shivansh had drawn on the other cheek.

He was still looking at it, clueless. He thought they must have drawn something funny but this was something he didn’t expect. Something this meaningful.

“Why a star and sun?” He asked turning back to look at them just to confirm whatever he was thinking was true.

“Oh! Chachu. Don’t act like this dummy.” Shivanshi slapped her forehead in disbelief while Shivansh pouted looking at his twin yet again calling him a dummy.

“It’s, Star Ray!” They both exclaimed as they jumped down of the bed and stood next to him.

“That’s so meaningful. Who would say you all are just four?” He ruffled their hairs as he kneeled down to their eye level.

“Thank you.” He hugged them tight and later kissed their cheeks.

Till a second ago he was forcing himself to stay grounded on a small hope as he felt lost and pressured due to the expectations of the people around him. Being a singer was not that easy as people say. It takes-in lots and lots of efforts to build a small hope in people’s heart so they could support you. And to keep that name alive takes more tons of efforts.

He had built his name from scratch and keeping it alive at this point of his life was a bit overwhelming for him. He didn’t know how to make a comeback in his career but this simple yet beautiful gesture just boosted his feelings. Boosted him to know what he really was and is. He is a Star. Star Ray. Star Rayansh. Star Rayansh Dubey.

“Let’s take selfies.” He grabbed his phone from nightstand and clicked few pictures of them together.

‘Star Ray’ he captioned it and posted it on his social media handles.

He just rinsed his mouth and then pressed the towel on the water droplets on his eyes not to ruin the masterpieces he had carved on his face. Later on, he pulled on a t-shirt to cover his bare torso and hopped his way towards the dining table to have breakfast and continued flaunting the little art of the twin’s entire day, that day.

Because little things like these make him happy.

Kids make him happy. And these two make him happier every time.

He was in his studio sitting with a guitar on his lap, trying to build a tune for his upcoming song. He strokes the strings and tried to build few notes but after playing few notes he stopped shaking his head in negative.

“This won’t do.” He muttered as he again started with the same tune and played first few notes which he was confirmed to add.

Contrasting to the tunes which he was playing a sound of I-phone ringtone filled the room making him turn to look at his phone on the floor besides him. He sighed and stopped playing the guitar and proceeded to pick up the phone to answer it as he stretched his legs to loosen himself a bit.

“What’s up bro?” He asked cheerfully making the person on other side sigh.

“Make yourself free tomorrow. I have something for you.” A manly voice said contrasting his cheerful one. Coldly.

“Last I checked you weren’t my dad to order around.” Rayansh rolled his eyes hearing his ice-cold best friend since childhood. Vrishank.

“Please, do me a favour, Ray.” Vrishank muttered something before he covered it with little enthusiasm.

“That’s like it.” Rayansh grinned after hearing the change in his tone.

“Please, attain a wedding for me tomorrow.” Ignoring his praises, Vrishank added.

“Are you crazy?” Rayansh screamed through his phone almost breaking Vrishank’s ears. Almost because he had pushed the phone away from his ear.

“It’s in Pune. I promised my friend that you will grace the event.” Vrishank said yet again ignoring his dramatic best friend.

“Without concerning me?” Rayansh questioned, irritated.

“I was caught up in a situation. Please.” Breaking his character. Vrishank said softly making Rayansh sigh.

“This is the first and last time I’ll accept this silly request of yours.” Rayansh breathed out thinking about the situation his best friend had pushed him into.

“Thank you.” Vrishank smiled on the other side of the phone.

“I am humbled by your sweet words. And hope you don’t go back to your two words guessing game again.” Rayansh ended dramatically as Vrishank hung up the call without answering him back.

“How am I even friends with his ice-cube?” Rayansh muttered as he stared at his phone. Annoyed.

“Whatever.” He shook his head negatively and kept his phone aside and continued with his work.
